Do this thought experiment with me I beg of you:
Imagine a world without greed. A world of the pure in heart.
Moses 7:18 And the Lord called his people Zion, because they were of one heart and one mind, and dwelt in righteousness; and there was no poor among them.
This sounds like a paradise and I’ve heard many people yearn for this. There is another scripture which gives the key to making this possible
D&C 97:21 Now this is Zion the pure in heart-
Having a people dwell together in peace with no poor among us naturally flows from people having pure hearts
Purity means something that is all one thing with nothing else mixed in. Pure in heart means our heart has a desire to do good while getting rid of all unrighteous desires.
This is mentioned in the Book of Mormon
Modish 5:2- Spirit of the Lord Omnipotent, which has wrought a mighty change in us, or in our hearts, that we have no more disposition to do evil, but to do good continually.
Now let’s say we get rid of the unrighteous desire for riches.
Yes this is an unrighteous desire according to this long list of very clear scriptures.

Let’s imagine a people who have learned to desire what is sufficient.
A people who want:
A home which is enough to house their family and do things but not a large home.
A car that can do what they need but not an expensive car
Clothes that last and look good but that are not expensive in any way
Enough money to handle emergencies and medical expenses as they come up but not bigger and bigger barns (Luke 12:18)
Enough to be able to retire and live but not to live lavishly
Let’s imagine how this would transform society in our homes, workplaces and churches,
Imagine what entrepreneurs and bosses would be like - starting businesses not to get rich but to do something they love and to provide something of value to others. They would treat employees that would be under their employ well and would share more freely with them because they no longer feel the need to hoard it. Alma 1:30
Employers would not be trying to get the most amount of work while giving the least amount of pay. Employees would reach the above status more quickly along with their bosses. People would be able to work their way out of poverty without having to climb any ladders or try and out compete the others as they would be working together. Employees would work for more than just trying to climb the ladder. There would be no need to try and work your way to a position in which you can prey on the poor below you.
Business transactions would be done in a way to provide mutual benefit. There would be no reason for silly tricks like hidden fees. Marketing ploys to inflate the perceived value of goods and services would be unnecessary. No need to manipulate the desire system of people to try and get people to buy stuff that will not increase their life satisfaction.
As Tolkien mentions in the Hobbit:
“If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.”
We need to purge our desire for riches now. It’s not something that we wait until Zion to do.
As you can see with our thought experiment zion is what naturally occurs when we purge our desires for riches. It doesn't require a system of government to maintain, it just requires a pure people.
As the scriptures say:
Matthew 6:19–21
19 ¶ Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Worshipping our economic system is leading a lot of people to do things that are contrary to the gospel. Many are also preaching things as righteous that are contrary to the gospel as well.
