1 Nephi 2: 20-
And inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments, ye shall prosper
This scripture has been misused more than any other to justify hoarding wealth. Many focus on some of the lesser items and stereotypes of what you think righteousness means such as not swearing, dressing modestly and not having tattoos (by the way not even a commandment). I think this is swallowing the camel and straining at the gnat.
Many justify seeking for wealth and ignoring the poor because you "deserve" it because you are righteous.
"Even the cornerstone of virtue, “He that is idle shall not eat the bread . . . of the laborer” (D&C 42:42), hailed as the franchise of unbridled capitalism, is rather a rebuke to that system which has allowed idlers to live in luxury and laborers in want throughout the whole course of history. The whole emphasis in the holy writ is not on whether one works or not, but what one works for: “The laborer in Zion shall labor for Zion; for if they labor for money they shall perish” (2 Nephi 26:31)"
- Hugh Nibley
Here is my own commentary
If you are wondering if I am anti capitalist or a socialist honestly I'm neither. I am not a capitalist or a socialist as God is neither also.
I am pro righteousness and anti evil. I think that all this fear of people turning against capitalism, it would be less likely if many of you would stop using it as a weapon to oppress people and as a way to justify it "for the greater good".
Also if you could stop defending those who do this that would be great also.
I teach relationships and nothing about politics because the basis of a prosperous society is people who treat each other with love and respect which is what I believe is one of the major things that god is talking about when he says "if you keep my commandments you shall prosper in the land" as he says the most important commandments are to love god and love your neighbor. He used an example of Samaritan as the way to keep this law and the fact that he chose a Samaritan shows just how little god cares about your stupid politics and petty divisions.
"By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another"
Many are focused on petty stuff and omitting the weightier matters
Matthew 23:23-24
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel
We cannot be talking about keeping the commandments while having a heart full of covetousness and a love of riches while oppressing the poor

Worshipping our economic system is leading a lot of people to do things that are contrary to the gospel. Many are also preaching things as righteous that are contrary to the gospel as well.
