What it takes for an autistic to appear "normal"
Most people don't know how much effort Autistics put in to just have a conversation. So
I wrote out the program I run when I'm in a conversation. It's written as a flowchart. It's everything my brain does while I'm having a conversation.
I can confirm that this whole program is done entirely consciously. All of these thoughts are running in my head at high speed.
I didn't realize everyone didn't do this until recently.
This is a part of autistic masking.

Our understanding of Autism has grown a lot in the last few years. There are a lot more people who fall under the umbrella of autism but who have been missed because they have learned how to camouflage or "mask" some of its traits.
